TF9 3RS Parking, WC Open by arrangement on 07971 267541

The church dates back to the 12th century, when it was founded as a chapel of Hodnet; the current structure being completed in 1788. The interior has number of monuments to local families, which include Lord Clive (Clive of India) who was buried “within the walls of the church” on 30 November 1774.

The church is much older than it appears, because in 1788, brick walls were added to conceal the inner stone structure. There is a fine west gallery and a beautiful stained glass east window by Kempe. There is a very elaborate memorial to Jane Vernon, who is seen flanked by stone effigies of her two husbands. She was responsible for the building of the west gallery in 1634, and in 1642 a charming wooden memorial to three of her sisters was placed in the north wall of the chancel.
